I have mentioned this show before, but if you aren't watching The League on FX, you are missing (probably) the funniest show on television right now. You don't need to know about sports or fantasy football to enjoy the show...you just need to have a sense of humor and like variations of dick jokes. Trust me, this show is great. It can even help your vocabulary; you will learn new terms such as: fear boner, Eskimo brother and even "the white-knuckler."

#OFFLINE is hosting a 2-day SXSW party featuring 2 stages and one of the better lineups released so far. With this lineup, you will need to get there early if you want to get in. Also, they are sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery, so I think it is safe to say there will be free booze.

Note: For Dinosaur Jr. fans - J Mascis is playing one of his only free sets at this show on Thursday.

Under the Radar is hosting not one, but two amazing parties this year for SXSW!! The party on Thursday (3/17) is co-hosted by JanSport, and the party on Friday (3/18) is co-hosted with Shure.

Judging by the AMAZING band lists on each day, I would expect these parties to reach capacity very quickly, so you should probably get there early!

Filter + Dickies seem to get REALLY good/popular bands to play at their parties each year, and this year is no different. Only the early times will be free for this party, which sucks, because the great bands play at night...but you shouldn't complain. If you really want to see Cold War Kids at midnight, then pay to get in, or just listen from the other side of the fence.

The capacity is pretty small at this venue, so get there early! Band/set times are listed on the flyer above.

There will most likely be no free food/booze at this venue.

Coachella Lineup | April 15-17

The Coachella 2011 lineup has been released, and is packed with absolutely fantastic bands!

With that said, I wish the "headliners" would have been replaced with other bands that are playing the festival (read as: no KOL headliner on Friday), but at least everyone who attends will have the opportunity to see so many fantastic bands all for the price of a 3-day ticket (around $300...which is pretty expensive for a 3-day festival).

Also, I guess everyone was thinking DAFT PUNK would play this year, but I didn't really think that would happen anyway...but I would have bought a ticket instantly if they were on the bill.

Even though I wouldn't pay this much for an ACL 3-day pass, if they could get some of these bands to play the 2011 festival, I would be happier with the increase cost in ticket prices.

SXSW Random Notes: Volume 1

Even though I don't exactly think any crazy/secret/huge news about SXSW has come out yet, I am starting to get super excited for certain bands/people to be coming to Austin this year.

Who am I most excited for this early in the game?

#1 - The Kills. Holy crap! I absolutely love them, and they are fantastic live.

#2 - Donald Glover. He is hilarious, and says he is bringing the I AM DONALD tour to SXSW this year.

#3 - MSTRKRFT...mostly because they are one of the bigger names that has been announced at this point.

Can't wait! Now, I guess it is time to start looking for the good (and free) day parties!

UPDATE (1/14): I just heard that Conan O'Brien will be in town, so he would obviously be the real #1 on this list.

ACL 2010 Food!

Acl is TOMORROW and I couldn't be more excited! Not only do I absolutely love going to the festival each year, but I am particularly excited because I am FINALLY getting to see one of my all-time favorite bands - The Strokes. Not only that, I am getting to see them standing next to Chuy, one of my best friends and someone who completely understand and shares my love for this band.

Other than the music at the festival, I actually just love being inside Zilker once it has been transformed into the ACL grounds. Part of that is, obviously, the amazing food that you get to indulge in over the weekend. I don't normally go out and eat at a lot of these places, even though their food is fantastic, so I generally use this weekend as a time to mix and match some of the best food in Austin.

Interpol is playing Austin!!! | Stubb's 10/28

If you thought ACL was going to be the only good show(s) in Austin in the month of October, you were very wrong. As of yesterday we learned that Gorillaz will finally be coming to Austin on 10/22, and from what I hear, everyone is absolutely ecstatic for the chance to see their live show.

But it doesn't stop there.

I just saw that INTERPOL will be coming back to Austin on 10/28 at Stubb's! I don't remember the last time they were in town, but I definitely know that I missed out on getting tickets. I am sad that Carlos D will no longer be with them for this tour, but hopefully they will still be fantastic live.

No idea when tickets go on sale or how much they will be. Check back for updates!

Gorillaz Announce North American Tour

If you are like Chuy, and have been waiting for Gorillaz to go on tour in North America, then you won't be waiting much longer. They just announced their tour dates with an Austin stop on October 22nd at the Frank Erwin Center.

No idea how much ticket are, but I would assume they would be in the $55-$70 range for decent seats.

ACL 2010 Schedule

I am sure by now all of you have had the chance to check out the ACL 2010 schedule. If for some reason you haven't, it is here.

For the first time ever, I will not be attending all three days (missed out on 3-day passes due to some weird Front-Gate glitch) and am only going Friday and Saturday. Not-so-surprisingly, though, this isn't really a problem as C3 has managed to turn the few good bands on Sunday into one giant time-conflict.

So, with that said, here are the biggest band conflicts that I can see on the ACL 2010 schedule:

ACL really just doesn't want to move them into a non-conflicting timeslot!

ACL 2010 Lineup Released!

The ACL lineup was released last night!! It looks a little different this year compared to the last few - it seems like C3 used a good majority of their funds to purchase very big name artists, but don't really have that many mid and small-tier bands.

Either way, they got The Strokes and I would pay the ticket price just to see them plus a few more of these bands. Let's just hope the 1-day ticket system doesn't screw me over like the 3-day system did!

Screw You ACL Ticket System!

I am extremely angry with the ACL/Front Gate Ticket system right now. If you aren't aware, today is the day you can purchase "Advance Price" (aka middle-tier) ACL tickets at 10am CST if you signed up for their email listserv. Well, I logged on at about 9:58 when I realized it was already turned on, and it basically put me in a waiting line to get my 2 tickets.

It started me at number 40.

But then, when the page refreshed...it crashed. Thanks, dicks. I had to start again...

It started me out at number 81. Then, when the page refreshed...it crashed again. So I hit the back button. (Note: If you just thought "you aren't supposed to refresh the page yourself," you can blow me. What the hell else was I supposed to do when it has already crashed twice!?)

So, it took me back to number 81 and moved backwards from there on out until the Advance Price tickets were sold out (approx 23 minutes later). Oh, and it crashed in there a few more times as well.

Let me just ask you this C3/Front Gate/ACL dumbasses: Did you not realize that your ticket site was going to get a TON of traffic this morning? Even though I know you don't care, since you make tons of money off of these festivals anyway, but it would be great if you could just come through on your word ONCE in these types of situations. This new system was supposed to help, but it was absolutely horrible.

I guess I will just wait for the lineup to be released before purchasing tickets at the normal/highest rate. No reason to buy tickets today and run the chance that the lineup is horrible.

If you did get tickets at the lower rate, tell me how you got through with the crashes and the backwards-moving waiting line.

Rachael Ray will be heading back to Austin for her annual kick ass SXSW party on Saturday, March 20th! What started off as a smaller RSVP-only event has turned into the non-RSVP line-around-the-block party that everyone wants to get into. If you haven't been, Rachael will be there along with a ton of her delicious food samples and drinks.

Last year, I saw the line wrapping around the ENTIRE block and skipped out. Just know that if you have to rely on someone LEAVING this party just to get in, you won't have much luck.

~~Hopefully they will have an RSVP this year, but it doesn't look like it will happen. Maybe the bigger venue (Stubb's) will help with the crowd?~~

Alright, kids. I am doing the usual Thursday - Saturday SXSW day parties, and wanted to leave you with a list of street closures. If you can manage, stay away; it is going to be a bitch anywhere near downtown.

Oh, and if you get hungry while you are out, the Chipotle on Congress is doing buy one get one burritos from 5-6pm 3/15-3/19.

-East Sixth Street will be closed 10 a.m. March 17 until 3 a.m. March 21, but will be open for drivers during peak morning commuting hours (6 to 10 a.m.) on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the music festival. Commercial deliveries can be made on Sixth Street and Red River Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

-Drivers on Fifth and Seventh streets will have slightly reduced access due to a single lane of closure on those streets. Eighth, Ninth, 10th and Brazos streets stay open continuously during the SXSW event.

-East of I-35, East Fifth Street between Waller and San Marcos streets will be reduced to westbound traffic only from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and noon -11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

-These closed lanes can be used by businesses and bands to load and unload. Any bagged meters in the downtown area can be used for loading and unloading, but unattended vehicles will be towed.

-SXSW is also sponsoring free live concerts at Auditorium Shores March 18, 19 and 20. Drivers in the area can expect traffic delays.

Major street closures March 17-21 include:

-East Sixth Street, 200 -700 blocks: Closed 10 a.m. March 17 until 3 a.m. March 21, except for weekday morning rush hour.

- North-south routes that cross Sixth Street: 500-600 blocks of San Jacinto Boulevard and Trinity, Neches, Red River and Sabine Streets: Closed 5 a.m. March 17 until 4 a.m. March 21.

-Red River Street, between intersections, from 500 through 1000 blocks: Closed 5 a.m. March 17 until 4 a.m. March 21

-Waller Street, from East Fourth Street to East Fifth Street: Closed 5 a.m. March 17 until 4 a.m. March 21

-For the concerts at Auditorium Shores on March 18, 19 and 20, the westbound right hand traffic lane of 600 through 800 blocks of West Riverside Drive: Closed 6 p.m. until midnight March 18 and 19; 6 p.m. until midnight March 20.

Other than being further away from downtown than your normal SXSW shows, the Lustre Pearl is a great venue for a party. I absolutely LOVE this lineup, but obviously the night shows are much better than the day stuff.

I REALLY hope that the "limited afternoon RSVP" allows at least SOME entry into the night shows...but I doubt it. Totally worth paying cover at these shows if you don't have the badge/wristband to get in.

Each year, AP throws the biggest, free, most insane show which just so happens to take place at the same time and in the same place as a certain music festival in Austin, Texas. Lollapalooza Headliners? Good or Bad?

Multiple sources are reporting that three of the major headliners for Lollapalooza this year will be Green Day, Lady Gaga and Soundgarden.

Not sure if I am completely off on this, but that doesn't exactly sound like an amazing group for the 3 headliner slots. Soundgarden would be great, but I don't know about the other two...especially considering the other big name bands that have played Lolla in the past few years like: Tool, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, and Rage Against the Machine.

I know these are big bands, and they will definitely sell out their allotment of tickets; it just seems like an odd lineup compared to who they normally have playing this festival.

Each year Auditorium Shores hosts amazing bands for their free SXSW showcase, and (so far) they are making sure they get some big names on the list. Even though it is a little further away than most of you will want to walk, especially when you are hammered, I highly suggest making it over there at least one night to check it out.
